Specs, Honest Review and all Facts

Traditionally the end of summer is the time of hot new electronics releases and so it’s not surprising that Sony just launched its new series of high-end LED HDTVs.

The XBR-55HX929, also referred to as XBR55HX929 without the dash on some websites, is the 55-Inch screen size 1080p Full HD model from the new HX929 series which marks the top of the line for Sony LED televisions. It’s equipped with the new Local Dimming technology which means a much more accurate dimming thanks to more dimming areas on the screen. This makes a huge difference for image quality and contrast, especially black looks like real black and not like dark grey when compared to edge-lit HDTVs. A proof for this impression is the Infinite contrast ratio which is calculated by measuring luminance at pure white and pure black, so no luminance at all when displaying black!

What’s new compared to last years models and the competitors like the UN55D8000 from Samsung? First of all, the new frameless Monolithic design with Corning Gorilla Glass which reduces reflections by daylight and direct light sources and improves brightness and contrast at the same time. Doesn’t only look extremely good, but helps for an even better picture.

Second, Sony boosted its Motionflow technology to a new level, XR 960 ensures a never before seen clarity and image sharpness even in fast-moving scenes. Blur on a LED screen? Say goodbye to the phenomenon with the XBR-55HX929! The name XR 960 is slightly confusing, especially in combination with the logo used to advertise it. It does not mean the HDTV has an unreal 960Hz refresh rate! The refresh rate is 240Hz which is more than enough, even in 3D mode, and simulates 960Hz with its full array of LEDs. This feature can be used at 4 levels, from smooth to clear plus according to your personal preferences.

The specs according to Sony:
